Xiaoxue (Jessie) Fu

Dr Fu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Carolina (USC). She is also a faculty member of the Cognitive and Neural Science Program and a faculty affiliate of the Institute of Mind and Brain (IMB) and the Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment (CAN) Research Center.

Prior to joining USC, she obtained her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Pennsylvania State University under the mentorship of Dr. Koraly Pérez-Edgar and Dr. Kristin Buss. She completed her postdoctoral training with Dr. Eric Nelson at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and with Dr. John Richards at USCShe then worked as a Research Assistant Professor at USC with Dr. Jessica Bradshaw.  

With training in Development Cognitive Neuroscience, her overarching research goal is to study the impact of early vulnerability on the development of attention functions and its association with socioemotional adjustment. Her research focuses on implementing a variety of measurements, including eye tracking, fNIRS, and fMRI, to assess how children process social information in different contexts. The ultimate goal of her research program is to contribute to the understanding of child development and the improvement of children’s socioemotional well-being.
